    Yentla Mendel mlada je djevojka koja živi u Poljskoj početkom 20. stoljeća. 
    Njezin otac, Mendel, unatoč zakonima koji zabranju ženama proučavanje Talmuda, potajno podučava svoju voljenu kćer.
