A film about animals and humans, our intelligence and whether it is important or even matters at all. Visually it's an exploration of depth and light - one of the best shots is an examination of a composition that wasn't made by Hoffman at all but by Greenaway yet our spacial awareness is restricted until we have no bearing on where the image begins or ends... a dissection of the futility of the symmetry that Greenaway places so much weight on in A Zed And Two Noughts but a recognition of the importance of subjectivity in art, equally critical and loving, Hoffman is equally uneasy with his own work as he is uneasy with the work of others - comprehension is a foreign concept. Memory is all we have and film is a form of memory - the only issue is that memories are things we own, and these memories (of the making of a fiction film) are not ours, and perhaps do not belong to anyone. Images and ideas left to hang in an empty space for eternity.
