Opis:
Mary Dwight Strauber je voditeljica manhattanskog noćnog kluba koja se odlučuje suprotstaviti moćnom gangsteru i pristaje kao svjedok surađivati sa javnim tužiocem Davidom Grahamom.
Iako natpis na početku filma tvrdi da je riječ o fiktivnim ličnostima i događajima, scenaristima je inspiraciju i zaplet dao spektakularni sudski proces na kome je prethodne godine njujorški tužilac Robert E. Dewey, koristeći svjedočenja prostitutki, uspio u zatvor poslati dotada svemoćnog šefa njujorške mafije Luckya Luciana. S druge strane, u nastojanju da se izbjegnu cenzorski problemi, odnosno poštuji strogi Haysov kod, producenti su profesiju žene promijenili iz prostitutki u "voditeljice noćnog kluba".
Bogart je na snimanju filma upoznao svoju drugu suprugu Mayo Mathot.
