Opis:
Pustolovni film o kapetanu francuske mornarice u vrijeme Prvog svjetskog rata koji se na slikovitu polinezijskom otočiću sukobljava s nasilnim sunarodnjakom.
Istaknuvši se junaštvom na bojištu u Sjevernoj Africi u vihoru Prvog svjetskog rata, časnik marokanskih strijelaca Alfred de Morsac (Thierry Lhermitte) dobiva premještaj na otok Fenua Poerava poznatiji kao "Biserni Otok" u Francuskoj Polineziji. Ondje, naime, treba unovačiti urođenike za potrebe francuske vojske koja protiv Nijemaca upravo vodi ključnu bitku kod Verduna. Međutim, otokom željeznom rukom upravlja de Morsacov sunarodnjak, zapovjednik Lefebvre (François Berléand) koji prema došljaku otpočetka pokazuje netrpeljivost. Prije tri godine protiv Lefebvreove se tiranske vlasti pobunio mjesni poglavica, ali ga je francuski časnik strijeljao. Među miroljubivim urođenicima jedino su poglavičina udovica Moeata (Marie Trintignant), inače kći francuskog pastora, i njegov sin Reia (Anituavau Landé) odlučni svrgnuti okrutnog Lefebvrea. Kada Reia u de Morsacu prepozna Tefaoru, lik iz mjesne legende koji bi navodno trebao osloboditi njegov narod, dobri će kapetan postati trn u oku nesklonog mu Lefebvrea"
A stuffy British military man is transformed into a legendary Polynesian warrior in this light comic adventure tale. Capt. Alfred de Morsac (Thierry Lhermitte) is a British naval officer who, after distinguishing himself in battle against the enemy in Morocco, is sent to Tahiti in 1914, where his assignment is to persuade the natives to join the Queens Army and fight for the crown in Europe. However, when Morsac arrives in Tahiti, he finds that the island is ruled by Lefebvre (Francois Berleand), a French military officer who minds his charges with an iron hand, and is intent upon getting revenge on Meoata (Marie Trintignant), the widow of the last man who attempted to overthrow Lefebvres martial regime. While Morsac, all starched uniforms and stiff upper lip, is a fish out of water in Tahiti, he soon decides that something must be done about Lefebvres tyrannical oppression of his people, and Morsac attempts to intervene; while earning the admiration of the Tahitians, he ends up in
