Opis:

Joe Slovak (Matthew Modine), ribarev je sin sa Zapadne obale, koji pohađa medicinski fakultet i prolazi teško razdoblje prilagođavanja sredini. Vjerojatno zbog usađene ponosne neovisnosti ribara, Joe prolazi kroz život svađajući se s okolinom. Dok on neozbiljno prihvaća stvari oko sebe i kasni na predavanja, njegovi kolege trude se postati dobri liječnici. Joe se zaljubljuje u kolegicu Laurie Rohrbach (Daphne Zuniga), no i na tom polju ne ide mu od ruke, te odlazi kući kako bi o svemu razmislio. Posjećuje dr. Rachel Woodruff (Christine Lahti), voditeljicu Odjela anatomije koja mu priča o razočaranju u svoju karijeru i njega, jer on nikada nije želio biti toliko dobar koliko je ona znala da može. Dr. Woodruff moli Joea da se posveti liječničkom zvanju.
