Kad je homoseksualnost još bila apslutni tabu u Engleskoj, osetljivi đak Stiven Karter iz ruralnog grada krije svoja gej osećanja, osim od svoje komšinice, devojke koja se zove Linda. Iznenada njegova očajnička potraga za partnerima u javnim klozetima dovede do sastanka na slepo sa “zlatnim đakom generacije” Džonom Diksonom , pred kojim je karijera na Oksfordu.
