Opis:
In the elegant world of artists and musicians, Gertrud ends her marriage to Gustav and takes a lover, the composer Erland Jansson. When he also fails to live up to her idealistic standards, she leaves him and imposes on herself a kind of exile of the heart. In flashbacks and in conversations laced with memories, we also learn of her affair with Gabriel, who still wishes she would go off with him, and we learn of her adolescence, with its early expression of her isolating ideal of absolute love.

Početak 20 st. Kopenhagen, Gertrud je nesretna u braku s odvjetnikom Kanningom.
Nakon susreta s pjesnikom Lindmanom, u kojega je prije bila zaljubljena, i kratke ljubavne
veze s mladim skladateljem Erlandom, ona napušta supruga i odlučuje se na samački život
u Parizu. Gertrud odbija muškarce jer osjeća da je nisu sposobni voljeti.
Za nju potpuna ljubav znači patnju i nesreću. Utjehu nalazi u radu i samoći čvrsto se držeći
svog načela Amor Omnia (Ljubav je sve).
Gertrud (1964) je zadnji film u Dreyerjevi karijeri snimljen po kazališnoj predstavi iz 1906 g.
Film je sastavljen iz skoro samo dugih kadrova, (190 pojedinačnih kadrova za skoro 2 satni film),
u kojima se kamera vrlo rijetko pomakne i u kojima su glumci jednako statični.
Produciran u Danskoj i premijerno prikazan u Francuskoj, film je bio napadnut od strane kritičara
obiju država kao "necinematičan"
A opet za neke, minimalistična montaža samo podcrtava emocionalan intezitet filma i umjesto da
ga izbaci iz prihvatljivih granica filmske prakse, kao avantgardan film pomaže u širenju tih granica.
Za one koji su spremni cijeniti jake suprotnosti, pokretne slike koje su nepokretne, ljubav koja je sve,
a ipak se čini nedostižnom, film 'Gertrud' će biti jedan od nezaboravnih filmskih doživljaja.
