Opis:

Ova meksička drama je adaptacija knjige nobelovca Nagiba Mahfuza. Smeštena je u današnjicu, u Meksiko Siti, umesto u Kairo četrdesetih godina prošlog veka.
Film je sastavljen od tri isprepletena dela, koji zajedno čine novo poglavlje. Svaki segment ima svog glavnog junaka, koji, ipak, imaju nešto zajedničko: niko od njih ne dobija ono što želi.
Čava (Huan Manuel Bernal), Rutiliov (Ernesto Gomez Kruz) sin, želi da ode u Ameriku. Nezavisna i privlačna Alma (Salma Hajek) razmišlja o udaji za bogatog vlasnika prodavnice. Siromašni mladi berberin, Abel (Bruno Bičir), zaljubljen je u Almu. Tu je i Suzanita (Margarita Sanz), koja se često upušta u krajnje neobične ljubavne veze.
