Na jednom lošem putu u Kazahstanu sredovečni Čarls Sajmon napušta svoj auto
koji je ostao bez goriva i peške nastavlja put po širokim stepama centralne Azije.
Povremeno sreće ljude i deliće civilizacije. Pored misteriozne prošlosti, ono čime Čarls
privlači gledaoca jeste njegova velika potreba da nastavi prema svom cilju.
Nakon razgovora sa saputnikom, shvata da bi na konju brže i bezbednije krstario stepom,
zato kupuje jednog od mlade učiteljice po imenu Ulžan. Uprkos Čarlsovoj tvrdoglavoj odluci
da putuje sam, Ulžan napušta sve i prati ga u planine. Ovaj par, nekada zajedno,
