Opis:


Based on an actual strike against the Empire Zinc Mine in New Mexico, the film deals with the prejudice against the Mexican-American workers, who struck to attain wage parity with Anglo workers in other mines and to be treated with dignity by the bosses. In the end, the greatest victory for the workers and their families is the realization that prejudice and poor treatment are conditions that are not always imposed by outside forces.

    'Salt of the Earth' je baziran na istinitom događaju kada su se radnici rudnika
    u Novom Meksiku pobunili protiv svojih poslodavaca i fokusira se na odnos između
    organa vlasti i meksičko-američkih radnika koji žive u nemogućim uslovima.
    Film je značajan i za feministički pokret, jer su žene rudara, protiv volje muževa,
    imale ključnu ulogu u pobuni.



    Za vrijeme McCarthyevog progona komunista, socijalista i antikomunističke histerije
    u Americi, film je zbog socijalne priče bio zabranjen. Film je režirao i producirao
    Herbert J. Biberman, koji je završio na crnoj listi 'Holivudske desetorice' jer je
    odbio odgovarati na pitanja kongresa pozivajući se na prvi admandman.
