Opis:
Jane is engaged to Roland, a courtier, but she is also admired by the King, who commands Benvenuto Cellini, the artist, to make a statuette of her. At this the jealous Duchess of Etampes is so enraged that she commands Roland to kill Jane. Roland pretends that he will obey, but secretly warns his fiancée, telling her to feign death, and all will be well. The two lovers carry out the deception perfectly and the jealous woman believes that her wicked purpose is effected. Later the Duchess becomes repentant and confesses her guilt to the King. Explanations follow, however, and all are forgiven.
