Opis:
U malom brazilskom gradu, Ze, jezivi i nasilni lokalni grobar veruje samo u "kontinuitet krvi". On živi sa Lenitom, koja ne može da mu rodi sina pa je on ubija. Uspeva da izbegne sumnju vlasti i udvara se Terezinhi, zaručnici svoga prijatelja Antonia, koja ga odbija. Sa Antoniom posećuje lokalnu ciganku koja proriče tragičnu nesreću. Ze se ruga tom proročanstvu, ali ciganka ga upozorava da će to da plati svojom dušom.
